Our HNC Fashion students not only learn how to communicate their designs through Illustration, they also learn industry standard sewing production techniques. They learn how to operate Industrial sewing machines, over lockers and steam presses, to achieve professional, industry standard results.

Over the course of a year they progress from ‘Sampling’ different seams, zips, pockets, collars and necklines to full garments. This year the students Final Project has been cut short and amended to respond to the Covid-19 Pandemic. In response to this they all contributed to the production of Scrub Bags for the voluntary organisation ‘For the Love of Scrub Bags’ based in Glasgow. In under a week just over 100 bags were produced and shipped to Glasgow by the students, all studying from home, some of them still working, whilst also juggling home – schooling and family life under lock – down. They are currently working on their amended ‘Final’ Production project all of which you will be able to read about in the coming weeks. As well as live demonstrations from Tutors, one of the teaching methods we use are videos; this enables flexible delivery (especially in lockdown).

This year’s students are on course to complete their HNC and progress to next year’s HND at Lews Castle College and they are doing so in a way that is reactive and proactive to the current industry situation.

We are also still open for HNC applications for the academic year 20 / 21 so if you have any questions about how the course will be structured please email This email address is being protected from spambots.
